Launch day in the office

To launch the walk in the office reps from the field and supporters from the office ran a Wii Bowling competition, collected donations, and gave out cake.

Walkers arrive in John O'Groats for start of walk

John and Adrian who are starting off the walk have arrived in John O'Groats in perpetration for the start of the walk of the walk in the morning.

Mike, Head of Operation's has also made it up there today to see them off and hopefully take pictures and update the blog. Unfortunately he has been struggling to get enough reception to update from the iPhone.

The Challenge

Between Monday 5th July and Friday 17th September 84 colleagues from the British Gas Resolution Team will be walking in relay from John O'Groats to Lands End, a challenge in itself!

To make this a bit harder we decided to pop into a few call centres and offices along the way turning what would have been a 1000 mile stroll into a 1300 mile stroll! The route will start from John O'Groats, go though Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff, London, Southampton and then finally finishing in Lands End 75 days later.

The Charity

We have chosen to support RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home who provide specialist education, therapies and healthcare for young people with sight loss and complex health needs. The team leaders visited the school and where inspired by the huge challenges the children overcome every day. RNIB Rushton is currently undergoing a £30m redevelopment of the sight to provide state of the art facilities. The British Gas Resolution Team have chosen to support this buy using the money raised to pay for a garden for the children. This is a secure patio area where the children can enjoy non-intrusive outdoor activity, such as eating outside.

The team leaders were amazed that there was very little outdoor space for the children currently but noticed how much they enjoyed it when they got chance to use it. Supporting this worthy project was an easy choice.
